Pagans believed that a moon gazing rabbit symbolised re-birth and abundance. 
The Hare follows the progression of the Moon throughout the night, hence its historic connection with it.
It is considered a sacred animal, completely entwined to Mother Earth or the ‘goddess provider of all things’.
